Maya Abdominal Therapy
A modality every woman should know about
“The uterus is a woman’s center, if her uterus is not in proper position and good health, nothing in her life will be right. She will be as out of balance as her uterus.” -Don Elijio Panti
When I was in my teens I read a book by Rosita Arvigo called ‘Sastun, My apprenticeship with a Maya Shaman’. When I finished it I thought to myself, that is what I want to do with my life, thinking it was a pipe dream. Years later I was apprenticing with a wise woman healer who worked with Rosita, Ann Drucker, she inspired me to go down to Belize to study with Rosita and other traditional healers. It was like coming home, learning the work she was teaching coupled with feeling the presence of the Maya spirits so deeply. When I was there staying in a room called “Ixchel”, who is a very well respected Maya Goddess, I had a dream that I moved to Hawaii and study bodywork so I could apply the work I was learning with Rosita on other people. I woke the next morning and decided I could make that happen. A year later I moved to the islands and apprenticed with Shari Sunshine a master body worker. I have continued to study the Maya work and have now become a Certified Instructor for Rosita’s Institute. The show a little more how things came full circle, When Rosita came through town, she came to me for a few healing sessions and soon I will be heading down to Belize again to assist one of her classes. I feel not only honored but also thankful for how this magical universe works.
Traditional Maya healers and midwives have practiced this time honored healing modality of Maya abdominal massage for thousands of years and many thanks go to Rosita for bringing this modality to the world. Maya abdominal therapy is a non-invasive, hands-on therapy that addresses health issues of both genders. The primary focus is to increase energy and circulation of blood, lymph and nerve impulses to the abdominal and pelvic organs. Displaced organs can restrict the flow of each or all of these different systems, and the resulting congestion is the cause of many digestive and reproductive ailments for both men and women. Misalignment of organs is common and occurs for many different reasons. Often the demands of everyday life require us to do things that cause our organs to shift, like standing or sitting for long periods of time, also pregnancy, miscarriage, and childbirth, falls or injuries may cause displacement.
Maya abdominal therapy is a holistic modality that addresses not only the physical body, but also works to restore optimal health through nutritional therapy, lifestyle adjustments, spiritual healing and supportive emotional release. Herbal medicines and other home remedies are often incorporated depending on the specific health concerns. Clients are encouraged to take part in their own healing by learning how to perform this self-care technique and make appropriate changes to their lifestyle and nutrition.
