Colon Hydrotherapy Yay or Nay?
Over the years many clients have asked me about colonics. They usually hear from their good friend how amazing they felt after having one, which piques their interest and they wonder if it’s good for them too, or more usually, assume that it is!
Firstly, I want to begin by saying that my personal goal as a health practitioner is to promote and restore health through gentle, supportive and nourishing techniques and modalities. I believe that to create lasting sustainable health we have to begin by creating balance within our everyday lives; live, eat, drink, breathe, and sleep. Restoring health on these levels builds a solid foundation for lasting health.
In my opinion, each modality has a place in the healing field and a specific time when it might be indicated on a person’s healing journey. There are many health modalities/treatments I would start with before I would mention colon hydrotherapy, however they can be very gentle and supportive in the healing process. As long as you are working to resolve the root problem at hand.
Colonics can bring up emotions held in the body and sometimes make a person feel very emotionally vulnerable after a session. I think it’s important to have self-care practices in place before trying this modality.
Now, after answering that question, the next one that often comes up is “what do you think of at home enemas?”
Enemas have their place, I call them intestinal lavages. I would do an enema before I would do a colonic because an at home enema’s are more gentle and you can do them in the privacy of your own home. I have used enemas to help decrease and even eliminate abdominal pain, pelvic pain and female cycle pain. AND I would also do what is needed to restore general health to the gut and to heal the root cause of the symptoms, in this way actually addressing the real health issues.
So, in short, I believe that colonics have their place, especially in severe cases, but mostly as a last line of defense and not all the time.
To a happy digestive tract, Naomi
